Pulmonology Clinic

At UCSF's Pediatric Pulmonology Clinic, we care for children with all types of lung disorders and breathing problems, from acute to chronic, common to rare. Because of the wide range of respiratory health problems we see, our team of pediatric pulmonologists and otolaryngologists (ear, nose and throat specialists) work together to evaluate each patient and develop a treatment plan.

We also offer state-of-the-art lung function testing for children of all ages. Our doctors are experienced in pediatric bronchoscopy, an examination that is useful in diagnosing many serious respiratory disorders. In addition to the general pulmonology clinic, we have specialized clinics dedicated to serving children who have specific respiratory disorders like asthma, cystic fibrosis, sleep apnea and respiratory syncytial virus. For complex cases, our comprehensive Pulmonary Function Laboratory provides advanced pulmonary function testing using minimally invasive procedures designed to ease your child's fears and discomforts.

We're committed to helping your child – and you – breathe easier.

Why families choose us

Routine, preventative, and complex pulmonary care

  • We offer a full range of treatment options from complex surgical and chronic respiratory support to primary and preventative care related to persistent coughs and seasonal disorders.
  • For premature infants with chronic lung damage, respiratory distress syndrome and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, our specialists work closely with neonatologists in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to develop the best treatment plan.
  • We collaborate with Allergy & Immunology in treating children and infants with asthma.
  • Our nationally certified Cystic Fibrosis Center is one of the largest programs in Northern California to care for children with cystic fibrosis.
  • We provide expert diagnostic, therapeutic and consultative care for children with respiratory allergies, exercise-induced asthma, and acute or chronic allergies or infections that affect breathing.
  • Additional support and education on asthma education, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) prevention, and a home ventilator program ensure that children receive the best possible care both in and out of the hospital setting.
  • Advanced respiratory care

  • Our respiratory care services team includes respiratory therapists with advanced training in pediatric respiratory care.
  • These respiratory care professionals offer the most innovative, state-of-the-art respiratory care technology available, and are available in the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
