Updated October 2021: Although new volunteer onboarding is still on hold due to COVID-19, we have resumed a small number of programs for returning volunteers only. We’ll keep this page updated as things change. In the meantime, if you have questions, please contact us at [email protected].
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals!
Volunteers are special members of our team. Without them, we couldn't do what we do and wouldn't be who we are. At UCSF Health we describe our mission – the reason we exist – as "caring, healing, teaching and discovering." Each volunteer who joins our community helps us advance that mission.
Volunteers' assignments vary. Some greet families as they arrive at the hospital. Others help visitors get where they're going. A few cuddle newborns (one of our most requested assignments)! While supporting patients and their families, volunteers have the opportunity to learn new skills and explore a career in health care, under the supervision of professional staff. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them a wide range of perspectives and talents that enhance the experience of those in our care.

If you or a family member has been a patient at UCSF, there's another way you can get involved. Our Family Advisory Council is a special forum that enables patients, family members and hospital staff to come together and explore ways for UCSF to improve care.
