When children have problems that affect bones, muscles or joints – ranging from broken bones and sports injuries to spinal disorders – they need prompt care from orthopedic specialists who know how to address these issues in growing bodies.

The care providers in our Pediatric Orthopedic Program have special training and expertise in diagnosing and treating orthopedic issues in children, from newborns to young adults. These specialists work as a team to ensure patients receive seamless, coordinated care as they grow.

What's more, our experts understand the impact a condition may have on a child's physical, emotional and social development, and they have access to other UCSF specialists, when needed, to help address those issues. While our orthopedists' immediate goal is to relieve pain and improve function, their longer-term goal is to make sure every child achieves their own maximum degree of physical ability and health – and a great quality of life.

Our multiple locations across the Bay Area make it easy for families to access care. For those who live farther away, we also offer follow-up care through video visits and referrals to community-based orthopedic surgeons.
