Visitor FAQs

Accommodations

We support and encourage parents to stay with their child. All patient rooms are equipped with wireless high-speed Internet, locking storage cabinets and an extendable sleeper sofa.

If your child is in the hospital for more than a few days, our family resource coordinator will assist you with finding housing. Facilities such as Koret Family House, Ronald McDonald House or a local hotel or guesthouse are lodging options. Information on nearby hotels, motels and short-term apartment rentals is available on UCSF's campus Housing Office website.

We understand that not every parent can stay with their child in the hospital. If you need to return home, we will develop a communication plan with you so that you can receive regular updates on your child's care.

Family lounges are available on each floor. A refrigerator is available for your use. Please label all items in the refrigerator with your last name, first initial and the date and time it was stored.

Showers and laundry facilities are available for families throughout the hospital. If you need toiletries, please visit the Center for Families, located on the sixth floor.

Breast-feeding rooms are located throughout the hospital, and breast pumps are available for your convenience. Please ask your nurse or lactation consultant for any equipment, labels or instructions you might need. Refrigerators and freezers are available for storing breast milk.

Visiting Hours & Guidelines

In the interest of protecting the privacy, safety and health of your child, all parents, family members and visitors must check in at the hospital's information desk, located in the lobby, where a security and brief health screening will be conducted. An identification badge will be issued. Please display your badge at all times while in the hospital by wearing your badge at shoulder height.

Parents are welcome 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families are especially important to a child during hospitalization and we encourage parents and family members to be present and participate in care as much as possible. Siblings of all ages are also encouraged to visit. As there is no care available for visiting children, please make arrangements for their supervision.
