Visitor FAQs

UCSF visitor policies have changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. See the latest visiting hours, restrictions and guidelines for our hospitals and clinics.

We support and encourage parents to stay with their child. All patient rooms are equipped with wireless high-speed Internet, locking storage cabinets and an extendable sleeper sofa.

If your child is in the hospital for more than a few days, our family resource coordinator will assist you with finding short-term lodging. Information on nearby hotels, motels and short-term apartment rentals is available from the UCSF campus Housing Office.

We understand that not every parent can stay with their child in the hospital. If you need to return home, we will develop a communication plan with you so you can receive regular updates on your child's care.

Family lounges are available on each floor. A refrigerator is available for your use. Please label all items in the refrigerator with your last name, first initial, and the date and time it was stored.

Showers and laundry facilities are available for families throughout the hospital. If you need toiletries, please visit the Center for Families on the sixth floor.

Breastfeeding rooms are located throughout the hospital, and breast pumps are available for your convenience. Please ask your nurse or lactation consultant for any equipment, labels or instructions you might need. Refrigerators and freezers are available for storing breast milk.

Visiting Guidelines

Dear UCSF Health patients, families and visitors:

Your safety is our highest priority.

To ensure excellent patient care as well as family and visitor safety, UCSF Health teams are working around the clock to stay on top of the evolving COVID-19 situation.

Under the San Francisco Department of Public Health's order, we have restricted visitors to all our hospital and clinic facilities.

To maintain a safe environment for our patients, the number of visitors should be kept as low as possible. Video visits are preferred, and our staff can assist you in setting one up. All patients being admitted to an inpatient area will receive a COVID-19 test. Visitors are not allowed in patient care areas until a negative result has been received for the patient. Under general visitation policies, all patients can now have one healthy visitor per day between the hours of 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

To read up on all the details – and the exceptions to these policies – visit our complete page, Visitor Restrictions Due to the Coronavirus.
