Ishaan Swarup

Dr. Ishaan Swarup is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who evaluates and treats infants, children and young adults with a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. In addition to general pediatric orthopedics, his areas of special interest include scoliosis and other spinal disorders, hip conditions and traumatic injuries. He is UCSF's chief of pediatric orthopedics.

Swarup aims to advance the field of pediatric orthopedic surgery through his research. His interests include disease prevention and improving outcomes for pediatric patients with traumatic injuries, hip disorders and spinal conditions. He has published numerous peer-reviewed studies and has presented his research at several national and international meetings. He has also received several grants and awards for his research from national and international organizations.

Swarup earned his medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery, followed by a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Swarup serves on several professional committees, and he is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and American Academy of Pediatrics. At UCSF, he serves as an associate professor of clinical orthopedic surgery.
