Pediatric gastroenterologist

Dr. Namrata Patel-Sanchez is a pediatric gastroenterologist who specializes in caring for children with nutritional disorders, including patients with intestinal failure who require chronic parenteral nutrition (long-term nutrition delivered into the bloodstream) as well as those with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (also known as fatty liver disease). She manages the KIND (Kids with Intensive Feeding & Nutrition Disorders) Clinic, which supports children using enteral nutrition (nutrients delivered to the digestive tract, such as through feeding tubes). Additionally, she is certified to administer IB-Stim, which uses a small electrical device to reduce abdominal pain and nausea in children.

In her research, Patel-Sanchez focuses on how to enhance the quality of patient care in her field, such as by improving food security for patients with celiac disease and increasing access to care for children needing enteral tube feeding, particularly as they become adults.

Patel-Sanchez earned her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Chicago, followed by a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at UCSF.
