Families Supporting Families at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital

At UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco, we value the opinions and suggestions of families and believe that families bring unique knowledge, skills and experience to caring for a child. The goal of the Family Advisory Council (FAC) is to partner with staff to incorporate the principles of Family Centered Care into all aspects of the patient and family experience.

Family Advisory Council

The Family Advisory Council was developed in July 2006 to provide a forum for interaction between families and hospital staff and a mechanism to respond to patient and family feedback. The council functions as a consultant to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in areas of family care. All council concerns and recommendations are reported to hospital administration.

Purpose

The overall purpose of the council is to improve the quality of patient and family care as it relates to family centered care principles. Areas of improvement include: physical and psychosocial needs of families, family access and presence, and the delivery of information between families and health care providers. It is our hope that changes implemented based on recommendations from the Family Advisory Council will ultimately result in higher patient/family satisfaction.

Family Advisory Council Members

The Family Advisory Council (FAC) members consists of hospital leadership staff and UCSF community families. Currently we have 15 parent members, representing diverse experiences in all units of the children's hospital including: acute and critical care, surgery, rehabilitation, oncology, BMT, outpatient clinics, labor and delivery and ICN.
