Pediatric infectious disease specialist

Dr. Mary Prahl is a specialist who cares for children with all types of infectious diseases, including those that are present at birth, affect the bones and joints, develop as a consequence of travel, and occur in immunocompromised individuals.

Prahl's research evaluates immune responses to infectious diseases during early childhood and pregnancy, with the goal of developing new disease-prevention strategies.

Prahl earned her medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Northwestern University and the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. She completed a fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at UCSF.

Prahl is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and American Academy of Pediatrics.

The guiding focus of my work is to prevent severe infectious diseases during early childhood through the identification of protective immune responses and to apply these findings to address public health and global health challenges.
