Dr. Mark W. Cocalis is a pediatric cardiologist who provides a wide range of care for heart conditions. He is experienced in diagnosing fetal problems, caring for newborns and managing chronic conditions in older children. In his research, he has studied the use of stents – tiny tubes placed inside blood vessels to support blood flow – in treating newborn heart conditions.

Cocalis earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Prior to joining UCSF, Cocalis was at Rady Children's Hospital – San Diego, where he headed the fetal echocardiography (heart ultrasound) service and heart transplant service. He also directed echocardiography, clinical services and the fellowship program in the cardiology division of Rady Children's Specialists of San Diego.
