Dr. Lionel Metz is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery, caring for both children and adults. He is skilled in using minimally invasive techniques to treat spinal disorders.

Metz has extensive experience in surgeries for the neck, or cervical spine; for spinal deformities, such as scoliosis and kyphosis; and for spinal stenosis, a condition in which narrowing of the spinal canal leads to pain or loss of function. He also has expertise in revision spine surgery, or procedures to correct problems stemming from previous surgery.

Metz earned his medical degree and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF. He completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Metz is a member of the North American Spine Society and J. Albert Key Washington University Orthopaedic Alumni Society. He is also a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an alumni member of the UCSF Inman-Abbott Society.
