Dr. Anoushka Sinha is an adolescent medicine specialist who cares for teens and young adults, embracing an approach that's responsive to each patient’s developmental level and emotions and that recognizes the importance of relationships in health care. She is particularly interested in adolescent mental health, reproductive health, and management of eating disorders. She integrates narrative medicine (using storytelling in healthcare) into her practice to support identity formation, foster meaning and deepen the therapeutic connection. Working at the intersection of medicine and the humanities, she strives to create spaces where young people feel seen, heard and valued.
Sinha’s research explores how storytelling can promote healing and self-discovery during adolescence. She designs narrative-based programs – such as book gifting in primary care, reflective writing groups for teens with eating disorders, and digital storytelling games – to help young people feel more engaged in and empowered by their care. She has published essays in medical journals, including JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), the Lancet and Pediatrics, and leads narrative medicine workshops for both providers and patients. Through this work, she hopes to bring greater imagination and compassion into the clinic.
Sinha earned her medical degree and completed a residency in pediatrics at Columbia University, where she also earned a master’s degree in narrative medicine. She completed a fellowship in adolescent and young adult medicine at UCSF.
Outside of work, Sinha loves reading novels, hiking coastal trails, and getting lost in bookshops and museums.
