Yu An is a genetic counselor who cares for children and adults who have an increased risk for various conditions linked to DNA abnormalities. She works closely with medical geneticists to educate families and provide counseling that supports their psychological and social well-being. She has a special interest in neurogenetics (the study of how genes affect nervous system development) and is involved in UCSF's program on the genetics of autism.

An earned her master's degree in human genetics at Sarah Lawrence College.
