Shan Ward

Dr. Shan Ward is a pediatric critical care specialist who treats children who are hospitalized in potentially life-threatening condition due to injury, infection, cancer, other illnesses or complications from surgery. She serves as the lead doctor working with the respiratory therapy team to care for children with acute lung illness or injury. She has a special interest in optimizing nutrition for her patients.

Ward's research focuses on strategies for safely supporting sick children who can't breathe on their own. She is also studying how obesity affects outcomes for critically ill children.

After earning her medical degree from New York Medical College, Ward completed a residency in pediatrics at Children's National Hospital. She completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine and a master of advanced study degree in clinical research at UCSF.
