R. Scott Heidersbach

Dr. R. Scott Heidersbach is a pediatrician who cares for critically ill children in the pediatric intensive care unit. He has a particular interest in treating patients with complex respiratory or postoperative needs and those with traumatic injuries. He serves on UCSF's trauma committee.

Heidersbach's research focuses on applications of computer systems to improve care for patients.

After earning his medical degree at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, Heidersbach completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at UCSF.

Heidersbach's proudest personal accomplishment is having been the primary caregiver for his two children when they were very young. He performed in a local production of The Nutcracker; with his daughter, playing the roles of Herr Stahlbaum, Madame Bon Bon and Uncle Drosselmeyer. He also led his son's Cub Scout pack, which he helped to become inclusive (an unofficial designation indicating the pack is open to boys of any sexual orientation or gender identity).
