Othman A. Aljohani

Dr. Othman A. Aljohani is a pediatric cardiologist who cares for children with complex heart conditions that they were born with or developed during childhood. He serves as medical director of the programs for pediatric heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. His expertise includes treating cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle condition that can cause the heart muscle to become weaker or thicker making it harder for the heart to pump blood. He specializes in caring for patients who may need mechanical circulatory support (devices that help the heart function) or heart transplantation.

In research, Aljohani studies factors affecting outcomes for children with end-stage heart failure who receive a heart transplant. He also explores ways to improve the quality of patient care and medical education, and enjoys mentoring medical trainees.

Aljohani earned his medical degree at Umm Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Children's National Hospital, an affiliate of the George Washington University. He completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and a fellowship in pediatric heart failure and transplantation at Texas Children's Hospital, an affiliate of Baylor College of Medicine. He also has a master of public health degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Aljohani is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and member of the American Heart Association, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, and Pediatric Heart Transplant Society.
