Dr. Nahid Rostami is a neonatologist and perinatologist, a specialist in newborn care and high-risk pregnancies. She is particularly interested in caring for preterm infants and newborns with lung disease, jaundice, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or neonatal abstinence syndrome (drug withdrawal after birth). Also interested in neonatal resuscitation, she teaches staff members, other health care providers and medical trainees the skills to facilitate breathing and heart function in newborns.
Rostami works on many quality improvement projects, including the virtual family-centered round, which helps the parents of hospitalized preterm infants become more deeply involved in their care.
Rostami earned her medical degree abroad. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Sinai Hospital and a fellowship in neonatal and perinatal medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She has been an attending neonatologist at Children's National Hospital and an assistant professor of pediatrics at George Washington University. She joined UCSF in 2015.
Rostami is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the California Association of Neonatologists.
