Michael Bell

Dr. Michael Bell is a pediatric emergency care physician. He specializes in sickle cell disease and serves as the emergency department coordinator for sickle cell care at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. He has a particular interest in nonpharmacological methods of pain management, such as acupuncture, for sickle cell disease.

Bell has dedicated his career to advancing the treatment of sickle cell disease. He served on a committee of the federal Health Resources & Services Administration focused on improving sickle cell care, holds workshops for parents of children with sickle cell disease and is medical director at a local camp for children with the disease. In 2019, Bell participated in a medical mission to Kenya, where he helped set up a clinic dedicated to sickle cell disease.

Bell earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Emory University and a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.

Bell is also passionate about reducing gun violence among youths. He is founder and director of Save Life Youth Summit in Oakland, an event to address Oakland's gun violence epidemic by encouraging a dialogue between young people and community organizations.
