Megan Keating is a pediatric nurse practitioner who cares for children with heart failure, including those needing a heart transplant. She is interested in the use of technology to improve health care and particularly patient communication. Her goal is to provide care that centers around a patient's individual needs.

Keating earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing at Columbia University. Before attending nursing school, she earned a psychology degree at the University of California, Berkeley. At UCSF, she worked in cardiovascular surgery and helped establish pediatric rheumatology and dermatology programs at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.

    Fetal surgery firsts

    The first open fetal surgery in the world was performed at UCSF in the early 1980s.
