Madie Rice is a pediatric nurse practitioner who works with families of children and adolescents undergoing anesthesia. She takes health histories, performs physical exams and educates families about what to expect before, during and after anesthesia. She communicates with the pediatric anesthesia, perioperative and surgical teams to ensure thorough, patient-centered care.

Rice earned her master's degree in nursing from UCSF.

    The first open fetal surgery in the world was performed at UCSF in the early 1980s.
