Fetal surgery firsts
The first open fetal surgery in the world was performed at UCSF in the early 1980s.
Dr. Jason Boehme is a critical care specialist who treats children with a variety of serious illnesses. His research focuses on diseases of the pulmonary vasculature (blood vessels connecting the lungs and heart) due to congenital heart disease (heart abnormalities present at birth).
Boehme earned his medical degree from the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. He completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at UCSF.
