Dr. James Howard is a pediatric critical care specialist with particular interests in caring for children with neurological injuries, traumatic injuries and acute lung injury, as well as in treating sepsis (a life-threatening response to infection).
Howard's research interests include education, patient care and quality improvement in critical care medicine. He serves on quality improvement committees and also as medical director for simulation training at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.
Howard earned his medical degree and a doctorate in biological sciences from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at UCSF.
