Dr. Farzana Perwad is a specialist who cares for children with kidney disease, including those requiring dialysis and kidney transplant. Her expertise includes evaluating and treating chronic kidney disease in children, nephrotic syndrome (a disorder that causes excessive excretion of protein in the urine), kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and kidney or urinary tract abnormalities that were present at birth. She also treats children with certain bone and mineral disorders, such as rickets and X-linked hypophosphatemia. In the UCSF Division of Nephrology, she serves as both division chief and director of the fellowship program.

Perwad earned her medical degree at Kasturba Medical College in India. She completed a residency in general pediatrics at Nicklaus Children's Hospital and a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at UCSF.

Perwad is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
