Emily von Scheven

Dr. Emily von Scheven is a pediatric rheumatologist with a special interest in the long-term health of children with chronic illness. She cares for children with all rheumatic conditions, including lupus. At UCSF, she serves as division chief for pediatric rheumatology and is founder and director of the Child and Adolescent Chronic Illness Center.

Von Scheven's research examines childhood lupus and other rheumatic diseases.

Von Scheven earned her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Children's National Health System and a fellowship in rheumatology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She also earned a master of advanced study degree in clinical research at UCSF, focusing on epidemiology and biostatistics.

Von Scheven has achieved national recognition and serves as vice president of the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance. She is on the board of the Arthritis Foundation's Northern California chapter as well as a member of its medical and scientific advisory committee.
