Dr. Karen I. Sun is a pediatric pain specialist and pediatric hospitalist who cares for patients in both the clinic and the hospital. She uses a variety of integrative therapies, including acupuncture, to relieve acute and chronic pain in children. Her expertise includes treating complex conditions and providing sedation to reduce pain or anxiety during procedures.
Sun is clinical chief of the pediatric pain, palliative and integrative medicine division and associate director of the Stad Center for Pediatric Pain, Palliative and Integrative Medicine. She previously served as chief of the hospital medicine division in the pediatrics department. She has received the Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators' Excellence in Teaching Award.
Sun earned her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University. She completed a residency in internal medicine at UCSF, serving as chief resident.
Sun enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, skiing, paddleboarding and hiking.
