Dr. James Betts is a pediatric surgeon who specializes in caring for children with traumatic injuries, as well as those with conditions related to the urinary system. He is the founding director, now emeritus, of the pediatric trauma program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.

Betts earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont. He completed a residency in urology at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He also completed a residency in surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, as well as residencies in pediatric surgery and pediatric urology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
