Carol Chen

Dr. Carol Chen cares for children in the emergency department. She has special training practicing in low-resource settings and in using simulation to teach healthcare providers. She has extensive experience working in multiple countries throughout Africa and Southeast Asia, including in disaster response.

Chen's research focuses on issues related to global health, including development of emergency care and trauma care systems; public-private partnerships; community engagement; and how to educate healthcare providers in low-resource settings to improve the care of ill and injured children. She is also very interested in injury prevention in children, through parent education and advocating for safer conditions for children in the community.

Chen earned her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and completed a residency in pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. At Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital, she completed a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine and a fellowship in global health. She later earned a master of public health degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Chen is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Emergency Physicians and Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.
