Neonatologist
Gratitude, optimism and service
Dr. Brian L. Montenegro is a neonatologist, a specialist in caring for premature babies and newborns who have birth defects, injuries or illnesses. He is passionate about improving the lives of others: both to babies at the very start of their lives as well as families that are going through an extremely stressful time. His priorities as a physician include safety, quality, and patient and family experience. He has special expertise in preventative medicine and caring for patients with infectious diseases and respiratory distress syndrome.
In research, Montenegro focuses on assessing the best available evidence in order to identify ways of increasing the quality of patient care.
Montenegro earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in pediatrics at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. While completing a fellowship in neonatal and perinatal medicine at Harvard Medical School, he also participated in its Global Clinical Scholars Research Training program.
Outside of work, Montenegro enjoys reading nonfiction – such as "Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance" by Angela Duckworth, his favorite book – and could talk about sports all day. He is passionate about athlete development and serves as a coach for a competitive youth travel league.
