Bill Berrigan

Dr. Bill Berrigan is a primary care sports medicine specialist who helps patients of all ages stay active, reduce their injury risk and achieve peak performance. He has a particular focus on ultrasound-guided injections and other nonsurgical techniques for patients with acute sports injuries, chronic issues and pain conditions.

Berrigan's research interests include noninvasive methods of diagnosing and treating chronic exertional compartment syndrome (a painful condition usually caused by exercise that involves repetitive impact), diagnosing musculoskeletal conditions with ultrasound shear wave elastography (a test to measure tissue elasticity) and orthobiologics (using substances from the patient's body to treat injury).

Berrigan earned his medical degree at St. George's University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital. He completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and served an additional year as chief fellow, focused on teaching and academic leadership. He also has a Registered in Musculoskeletal (RMSK) sonography certification.

While at Emory, Berrigan provided sports medicine coverage for the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Dream. He served as head team doctor for the Fan Controlled Football league and assistant team doctor for the College Park Skyhawks, an affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks. During his undergraduate years at Villanova University, he was a hammer thrower on the school's Division 1 track and field team. He has also been a competitive bodybuilder.

Berrigan grew up in San Marcos, California. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, hiking national parks, and following Villanova basketball.
