Pediatric hematologist-oncologist
Leukemia specialist and investigator

Dr. Benjamin J. Huang is a hematologist-oncologist who cares for children with leukemia and other cancers.

Huang's research lab aims to develop new strategies for treating leukemia using innovative drug combinations that are informed by biology and genetics. In studying blood cancers, he employs cancer modeling, targeted therapies, functional genomics (how genes affect biological processes) and biomarker identification (finding biological indicators of disease and response, such as the measurement of rare but persistent cancer within the bloodstream and bone marrow). He has a special focus on pediatric acute myeloid leukemia. He works collaboratively with other investigators at UCSF and across North America through the Children's Oncology Group.

Huang earned his medical degree at UCSF, where he also completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology.
