Auran Piatigorsky


Parent of two, sport psychologist and outdoor adventurer

Auran Piatigorsky is a psychologist who specializes in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, Piatigorsky earned his master's degree and doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley.

Piatigorsky was first introduced to DBT in 2006 at UCSF while working as an intern and postdoctoral fellow, and he has practiced DBT since then. Previously, he had worked for many years with teens and adults in a variety of settings, including residential treatment centers, outpatient clinics, prisons, wilderness programs and the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System.

Piatigorsky has also conducted research on antisocial behavior and trauma in several settings, including the National Institute of Mental Health, UC Berkeley and University of Oslo.

When not practicing psychology, Piatigorsky is an active parent of two children as well as an avid participant in outdoor sports.
