Aparna Upadhyaya is a pediatric nurse practitioner who cares for children with bladder and bowel dysfunction. She starts by providing comprehensive, holistic evaluations, then works with patients and families to manage the problem. To treat chronic urological disorders, she uses motivational interviewing (a counseling method that focuses on addressing ambivalence about change) and integrative approaches to alleviating the stressors involved for both families and kids. She enjoys being part of team comprising many kinds of specialists, triaging cases, as well as consulting and collaborating with the urological surgery team. She previously worked in the Pediatric Prepare Clinic, which focuses on ensuring safety for children receiving anesthesia during surgical procedures.
Originally an Ayurvedic doctor (practitioner of traditional South Asian medicine), Upadhyaya has experience in providing holistic care to patients of various ages in India and California. Her Ayurvedic training includes yoga therapy. She also works as a primary care practitioner at a Fremont clinic that offers care regardless of ability to pay.
Upadhyaya earned her master's degree in nursing at UCSF. She completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Health.
In her free time, Upadhyaya enjoys yoga, contemporary dancing, and exploring the Bay Area outdoors with her Dalmatian-pointer mix, Nala.
