Bone marrow transplant specialist
Early-phase trials and cellular therapies researcher

Dr. Anurag K. Agrawal is a hematologist-oncologist and bone marrow transplant specialist who cares for pediatric and young adult patients with blood disorders and solid tumors. He developed and directs the early-phase and cellular therapies programs at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. He has special interests in integrative oncology (treating cancer with complementary therapies in addition to standard methods), supportive care, health disparities and global health. He has developed an integrative hematology-oncology program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland that includes massage, acupuncture and acupressure and immersive virtual reality, available to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Agrawal is involved with multiple research projects on differences in access to care, treatment side effects and outcomes for underrepresented minority and low-income populations, with the goal of learning how best to address these gaps. In addition, he studies integrative oncology, supportive care and cellular therapies such as CAR-T therapy, in which the patient's T cells are modified to fight cancer more effectively.

Agrawal earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his residency in pediatrics at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, where he also completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology.

Agrawal is an avid traveler who has visited all seven continents. He helped develop a pediatric hematology training program in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which began in 2019.
