Fetal surgery firsts
The first open fetal surgery in the world was performed at UCSF in the early 1980s.

Anna Liang is a pediatric nurse practitioner who specializes in caring for children undergoing surgery. She is dedicated to collaborating with families throughout the treatment process to ensure compassionate and comprehensive care.
Liang earned her bachelor's degree in nursing at San Francisco State University, followed by her master's degree in nursing at UCSF. In 2010, UCSF honored her with a DAISY Award, which recognizes nurses who consistently demonstrate compassion and expertise in patient care.
Outside the clinic, Liang is an avid scuba diver who enjoys exploring the underwater world.
