The UCSF Northern California Neonatal and Pediatric Hospital Medicine Consortiums formed in 2013 to increase collaboration among pediatric hospitalists and neonatologists at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals and affiliated community hospitals across the region. The primary goal of the consortiums is to standardize care and eliminate unwanted variation in clinical practice within and across institutions for common pediatric and neonatal conditions treated in the emergency department, well newborn and neonatal intensive care nurseries, and pediatric inpatient hospital setting.

Representatives from UCSF and affiliated hospitals meet on a quarterly basis with rotating leadership to develop consensus clinical care guidelines on selected conditions with a focus on community-based hospital medicine. Content is derived from medical literature review and integration of current national practice standards with input from local topical experts. The implementation of guidelines within the consortium network will be evaluated by measuring performance on specific process and outcome metrics at each of the participating sites.

Consensus clinical practice guidelines are reviewed periodically to ensure they remain consistent with current medical literature, national guidelines, and updates in local practices. New and revised guidelines will be posted on this site as they become available.
