Fetal surgery firsts
The first open fetal surgery in the world was performed at UCSF in the early 1980s.

Dr. Naomi Bardach is a pediatrician with expertise in urgent care. She also cares for children at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. In her research, she focuses on improving hospital care for children by assessing treatments that prevent readmission; to do this, she applies advanced biostatistics and study design, qualitative methods and survey findings.
Bardach earned her medical degree at UCSF, where she also completed a residency in pediatrics, serving as chief resident, and fellowships in pediatrics and health policy. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and its advocacy group.
