Ilona Frieden, MD

Director of Pediatric Dermatology

Dr. Ilona Frieden, director of Pediatric Dermatology at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, is a world-renowned specialist in children's skin diseases. She has more than 30 years experience in treating conditions including birthmarks and hemangiomas, laser surgery of port-wine stains and in caring for children with common conditions such as eczema and rashes. She is founder and director of the UCSF Birthmarks and Vascular Anomalies Clinic founded in 1991 and treats patients in the Ectodermal Dysplasia Clinic of the Craniofacial Anomalies Center.

Frieden is a clinical professor of dermatology and pediatrics and the founder of the Hemangioma Investigator Group, a multi-center collaboration for the study of hemangiomas. She is the editor in chief of the journal Pediatric Dermatology. She is also a member of the board of the American Academy of Dermatology.
