At UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, some of the most valuable guidance comes from within our community. That's why we work with a number of patient and family advisory councils, who help us improve care and enhance the overall hospital experience for patients and visitors alike. Below, you can find out more about each group, including how to get involved.
Hospital-Wide Family Advisory Council
The hospital-wide Family Advisory Council (FAC) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals acts as a consultant for both San Francisco and Oakland. At each location, the council is made up of families who partner with staff and care providers to deliver advice on various hospital-related topics. Responsibilities of FAC members include evaluating new policies, designing a healing environment and sharing parents' perspectives on their kids' care. Learn more about the FAC's role and how to apply.
Youth Advisory Council
Serving on the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is an opportunity for teenagers and young adults to take an active role in improving the patient experience at our hospitals. Made up of current or former patients of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, seen in either San Francisco or Oakland, this group advises hospital leadership, collaborates with care providers and plans events for other pediatric patients. Learn more about the YAC's role and how to apply.
Intensive Care Nursery Family Advisory Council
This specialized family advisory council at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco empowers families familiar with our intensive care nursery (ICN) to infuse their voices into the care provided there. Its members, who partner with hospital staff and leadership, represent a diverse group of parents whose children stayed in the ICN for a range of reasons. In addition to advising on ICN projects, the group sponsors and hosts an annual reunion for families. Learn more about the role of the ICN FAC and how to apply.
