UCSF's pediatric orthopedists are experts in the physical development of children and how a child's ongoing growth requires care that differs from that of an adult. Our team is comprised of doctors, nurses and physical therapists who work together to develop treatment plans that are tailored to each child's individual needs. Our goal is to improve the child's quality of life, decrease pain and enhance function.
We're experts in managing the special needs of children with problems such as hip dysplasia, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, bow legs and knock knees, scoliosis, kyphosis or "hunch back" and spondylolisthesis, a condition in which one vertebra slips forward on the one below it. We also treat rare disorders such as fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva.
Problems of the foot and ankle — such as clubfoot, flatfoot and in-toeing and out-toing — are treated by UCSF's Foot and Ankle Clinic.
Other problems we treat include:
We treat complex problems in collaboration with specialists in neurosurgery, rehabilitative medicine and anesthesiology. We also work closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, hand therapists and child life specialists.
Parents are vital members of the team and we do our best to ensure that parents are fully informed about their children's condition and treatment.
You'll need a referral from your child's pediatrician or specialist to make an appointment. Once you have the referral, please call the number below.
