Dr. Robert Rothbaum is a specialist in digestive system disorders. He provides care for children and their families. As section chief of the UCSF Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, he works with his divisional colleagues to design innovative programs to improve access to care and the effectiveness of care.

After earning his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Rothbaum completed a residency in pediatrics at St. Louis Children's Hospital, where he also completed a fellowship in ambulatory pediatrics. He completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Rothbaum belongs to the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition; American Academy of Pediatrics; American Gastroenterological Association; and American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.

Rothbaum served as the Centennial Professor of Pediatrics at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he also served as clinical director of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. From 1994 to 2019, he served as medical director of the Gateway chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation's Camp Oasis, a summer camp program for children with inflammatory bowel disease.

Rothbaum is a grandfather to eight, father to five, husband to one, and dedicated caregiver and educator to many.
