Peter Goadsby, MBBS

Neurologist and headache specialist

Dr. Peter Goadsby, a neurologist, specializes in diagnosing and treating headache disorders, including migraines, cluster headaches and other forms of chronic or daily headache. He is one of the world's leading headache experts and researchers.

Goadsby's research focuses on the mechanisms and management of head pain, with special interests in migraine and trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia, a type of headache disorder in which pain and associated symptoms appear on one side of the head. His studies aim to investigate parts of the brain involved in headache and to derive new treatment approaches from this better understanding.

Goadsby earned his medical degree at the University of New South Wales, completed a residency in neurology at the Prince of Wales Hospital and completed a fellowship in neurology at the National Hospital for Nervous and Mental Diseases in London. He completed postdoctoral work at laboratories in New York and Paris.

Before coming to UCSF, Goadsby worked at the Institute of Neurology at University College London, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children.
