Staving Off Type 1 Diabetes with Immune Therapy

Researchers at UCSF are finding success in altering the natural, and previously inexorable, course of type 1 diabetes. Through various drugs, including antibody therapies, the researchers hope to save or preserve the function of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas.

UCSF Opens Pediatric MS Center

The UCSF Medical Center has recently opened a Regional Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Center to address the needs of patients and their families. The pediatric MS center at UCSF is one of only six such clinics in the United States, all of which have opened recently under the sponsorship of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Pediatric Prepare is a new program created for children and their families at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital to make the preparation for surgery and anesthesia as painless and anxiety-free as possible. The program has recently inaugurated a dedicated, child-friendly space to make children feel more at ease during one of the most difficult times in their lives.
