When academic medical centers collaborate with community physicians to bring specialty services to those physicians' communities, patients gain access to care they might otherwise have to do without.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital has long been an enthusiastic participant in such collaborations. With the appointment of Gordon Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., as chief of strategic program development and outreach, UCSF is deepening its commitment to having a local presence in a much broader range of communities.

Diverse Specialty Clinics in Dozens of Locales

"I'm focused on creating innovative, evidence-based systems that standardize care to reduce human error and achieve the best possible outcomes," Cohen says. "Fewer errors and more predictability translate into better care and improved costs. The more we can offer that type of care to our partner communities, the more value we will bring."
