Welcome to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital News

This newsletter, published in the spring and fall, communicates research and clinical news about UCSF Children's Hospital programs to physicians throughout the region. It also will include information on how we are making the referral process easier for physicians, patients and their families.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is a regional resource with a national reputation. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the top children's hospital in California and one of the top children's hospitals in the nation, we draw patients from around the world. We tailor medical care to developing minds and bodies of children and offer programs specially designed to support young patients and their families. UCSF offers pediatric specialists in a wide range of medical subspecialties such as surgery, radiology, anesthesiology, endocrinology, oncology, orthopedics and cardiology.

The UCSF Department of Pediatrics, founded in 1913, is one of the nation's oldest and most respected, and consistently places among the nation's top five departments nationally for research and teaching. Children treated here have access to a full range of distinguished pediatric specialists and to investigational new treatments not widely available.

Just as we make great strides in improving the quality of care, UCSF works to improve the quality of life for patients and families. UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provides for at least one parent to stay overnight with a child in the general care rooms of our 140-bed facility. Pediatric social workers can arrange convenient housing for families nearby. The Child Life Program offers trained specialists who help kids minimize the stress of a hospital stay.

The doctors at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital are interested in hearing from you. If you have questions about our program, feel free to call Dr. Sam Hawgood, physician in chief at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, at (415) 476-9181.
