Pediatric hospitalist

Dr. Michele Long is a pediatric hospitalist, a specialist in managing the care of young hospitalized patients. In addition to patient care, she serves in medical education leadership roles at UCSF, including as co-director of career advising for pediatric medical students and as director of Education in Pediatrics Across the Continuum (EPAC), a program within the UCSF School of Medicine that offers students a pediatric-focused curriculum, enhanced mentorship and other benefits.

She earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, where she served as chief resident.

A Northern California native, she has been fortunate to practice at hospitals throughout the state, including Rady Children's Hospital – San Diego, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford and UC Davis Children's Hospital. She is a graduate of the Academic Pediatric Association's Educational Scholars Program and a co-creator of Advancing Pediatric Educator Excellence, a national training program for pediatric hospitalists and other pediatric specialists who want to improve their clinical teaching skills.

As part of her focus on medical education, she is interested in developing skills to work more synergistically with teams of learners and medical professionals whose practice intersects multiple fields. She is passionate about supporting collaborative care as well as shared decision making with patients and families.
