Maren Scheuner, MD, MPH

Clinical genetics specialist

Dr. Maren Scheuner is a doctor with advanced training in internal medicine and medical genetics and the use of genetic information for diagnosing and treating disease. She specializes in genetic conditions that develop in adults, with particular expertise and interest in hereditary cancers.

Scheuner provides comprehensive consultations that include genetic diagnosis and risk assessment, genetic counseling and education, and recommendations for disease prevention, monitoring or management. Her practice focuses on adult patients, though she also cares for children with suspected hereditary cancer syndromes.

Scheuner's research focuses on evaluating outcomes for patients who receive genetic interventions and services. She also studies how to implement genetic services and tests into clinical practice.

After earning a master of public health degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, Scheuner earned her medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She completed a residency in internal medicine at UCLA Health San Fernando Valley, followed by a fellowship in medical genetics at the UCLA Intercampus Medical Genetics Training Program.

Scheuner serves on the board of directors of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, where she also serves as vice president for clinical genetics and as representative to the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association's medical advisory panel. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Society of Human Genetics and American Society of Clinical Oncology. She is a section editor for the journal Genetics in Medicine.
