About me
Karen Cooper is an orthoptist who cares for patients with conditions affecting binocular vision (coordination of the eyes to send a single image to the brain) and eye movement. Working as part of a team with ophthalmologists and optometrists, she assesses young children as their vision develops. Her expertise includes using patches to treat amblyopia (lazy eye) in children as well as treating a wide range of vision problems in adults.
Cooper earned her degree in orthoptics from Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and earned professional certification from the American Association of Certified Orthoptists.
Cooper is an examiner in the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group, a collaborative network of research sites dedicated to studying eye disorders that affect children. She has received the PRIDE Experience Award, an accolade given to employees who embody UCSF's core values of professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity and excellence.
