Pain Management Program
The Pediatric Pain Management Program specializes in caring for children affected by pain, including chronic conditions such as amplified pain syndrome. Our experts also care for children with acute pain – the kind that typically develops quickly and often can be resolved with prompt, short-term treatment.
Our doctors, nurse practitioners, pain psychologists and other providers take a multimodal approach to treating pain. Depending on your child's condition and needs, we may use medication management; nerve-blocking techniques; implantable pumps for ongoing delivery of pain medication; and complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and acupressure.
Before the first appointment, we collect relevant information on your child's medical needs from you, the rest of your family and referring providers. This helps us choose the provider who can best address your child's pain. We also collaborate with your child's primary care team on developing an individualized treatment plan.
If it turns out your child needs services that are unavailable at our clinic, we work to identify a UCSF health care provider who can provide them.
