Corey Raffel, MD, PhD

Pediatric neurosurgeon

Dr. Corey Raffel is a board-certified pediatric neurosurgeon and leads UCSF's pediatric neurosurgery outreach service at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, Calif. Prior to joining UCSF, Raffel was professor and vice chair at Ohio State University School of Medicine and chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Raffel is the principal investigator of several research studies that aim to develop new treatments for childhood brain tumors.

Raffel earned a medical degree and doctorate degree at University of California, San Diego. Subsequently, he completed an internship in general surgery, residency in neurological surgery and fellowship in pediatric surgery at UCSF. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Raffel is a member of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgeons and sits on the scientific advisory council of the American Brain Tumor Association. He also is a member of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery and of the Society of Neurological Surgeons.
