Arpi Bekmezian

Dr. Arpi Bekmezian is a pediatric hospitalist who cares for infants and children hospitalized for severe or chronic illnesses. She specializes in optimizing medical management and care coordination for these patients.

Bekmezian's professional interests include improving patient health outcomes, reducing preventable harm, and building a culture of safety and continual improvement. As executive medical director of quality and safety at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco, she works to develop, implement and manage strategies for improving the quality and safety of pediatric care.

Bekmezian earned her medical degree at UCSF. She completed a residency in pediatrics at UCLA, where she began her career in pediatric hospital medicine. She also trained in advanced improvement methodology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and completed a fellowship in the California Health Care Foundation Health Care Leadership Program. She joined the UCSF faculty in 2008.

Bekmezian is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research. She has authored manuscripts on quality improvement research and has received awards for her work in patient safety.
