Visiting Hours

Visiting hours generally are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. but may be more limited in critical care areas.

If you have questions about hospital visiting policies or hours, please check with the nurses in the each department or unit.

In special cases, visitors may be allowed to arrive after 8 p.m. After-hours access is limited and all visitors are screened by security. After-hours visits must be approved by the nursing unit. Once approved, visitors will be issued a dated visitors pass that must be worn at all times.

Flu Season Visiting Policy

To help prevent the spread of the H1N1 flu, UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital are asking patients and visitors, who are experiencing cold and flu symptoms, to postpone non-urgent visits to UCSF.

Please postpone your visit if you have any of the following symptoms:

• Cough
• Diarrhea
• Fever (oral temperature greater than 100° F)
• Runny nose
• Sore throat
• Vomiting
• Other cold and flu symptoms

If you have a non-urgent medical appointment and your child is experiencing flu symptoms, please contact your health care provider to reschedule your appointment. This excludes medical appointments for the care of flu symptoms. If you have special circumstances, please speak with your health care provider for assistance before arriving.

We understand that this policy may be inconvenient for some, but we hope you will comply with the policy to help protect the health of our patients and our employees, who care for them.
